The god of Izumo has traditionally been regarded as the god of marriage, good fortune and agriculture.  Shinto shrines are often unpainted.  The wood is allowed to age naturally to a soft silver sheen.  Across the entrance is a large rope of rice straw, showing that this place has been purified.
